Can't synchronize
Ingezonden donderdag, 12 november 2009 door Paul Ferraz
Joaktree is a great piece of software!

I am just having problems synchronizing the databse with a new Gedcom fil that I uploaded. I have clicked on the Process Gedcom file and assign family tree but the data still has not updated. What am I doing wrong?

It should be simple.
Are there any messages shown?

The steps to follow are:

1.
Delete the old file (this is optional, but this way you will be sure that you will work with the new file);

2.
Upload the new file.

3.
If the new file has a different name than the old file, update your parameter settings. Remember: this is case sensitive.

4.
Process the new file.

5.
Assign the family tree

Thanks for the quick reply. However, all the new records in the new GEDCOM file still do not appear. Is there a procedure by which I can just delete all the data that I initially uploaded and start from there?

Thanks!

Kind regards,
Paul

There is no automatic procedure, but you can always use the following manual procedure.

1.
Make a backup !!!
This can be a (a) backup of your full site, (b) a backup of your database, or (c) only the joaktree tables in your database.

2.
Locate the joaktree tables in your database. If you followed step 1c above, you already located them, but if not you have to look for them now by logging in as administrator in your database.
The joaktree tables (10 in total) all have the word "joaktree" as part of their name.

3.
The following eigth tables are automatically filled when you process a gedcom file or assign your tree. Therefore these following eight (=8) tables can be emptied and refilled without to much problems. This are tables having a name ending with:
- gedcom_objectlines
- gedcom_objects
- persons
- person_sources
- relations
- repositories
- sources
- tree_persons

4.
You can also emty the two last tables, but then you will lose data which you entered yourself in your back end.
(1) The "admin_persons" table contains all data of which person is living, published, or has a linked page. Emptying this table will result in default settings after you processed your file again.
(2) The "trees" table contains your family tree names and introduction text. These will be lossed when you empty this table.

5.
After you emptied the tables as you seemed fit, you can log in the administrator module and process the GedCom file again and assign your family tree again.

Before you go through this, please make sure that there is no other cause of your incident.

- Did you use a Mac OS system to generate your GedCom file? If so, read the forum message about that issue first.

- You say that the new records in the GedCom file do no appear. I assume this are person records. If you refer to other records, like occupation and so on, the current version of Joaktree does not support these yet.

- If you say that the new person records do not appear, are you convinced that they are in your GedCOm file?

I followed your instructions in emptying the database and I now have it working perfectly. Thank you for all the help.
