Version 1.0 of Joaktree component had indeed a vulnerability, which could lead to an unwanted take over of a site. This also happened to me in December 2009.
This issue has been solved in version 1.1.
I have seen that some people on the internet claim that this vulnerability still exists in higher version than 1.0, but I am pretty sure this is not true. Version 1.0 was also listed by Joomla's own security list; higher versions of Joaktree are not.
As is always the case with free software, you are using it at your own risk. I try to make good, solid and error free software, but this is not a guarantee that my efforts always succeed.
