Only root family tree is displayed
Posted Sunday, 15 August 2010 By Laetitia
I don't manage to display all the person for my family tree. Only the root person is displayed.
In the "Person" panel, I can see that only the root person is linked to my family tree. Should not every person be linked to it ?
Problem with linking people to the tree

Yes, of course all persons in the tree should be linked to the family tree.
I assume you have the latest version of Joaktree (v1.2.1). In a previous version of the component there was a bug, which is now fixed.
Joaktree supports two different situations.
1. You only have one tree and you want all persons in the database linked to this tree.
2. You want to display different trees, where every tree has its own main ancestor.
In situation 1
- Open the parameter dialog in the admin-site
- Look for the parameter "Number of family tree" and select the option "single tree"
- For the option "Single family tree" choose your family tree in the dropdown box.
- Close the parameters dialog.
- Go to the family trees page
- Click on "Assign family tree".
This should link all people in the databast to your tree.
In situation 2
You have multiple trees with a different main ancestor each.
- Configure the parameters for this option.
- Assign family trees (as described above).
If this does not solve your problem, the relations in the database are corrupted.
In that case you have to create a full GedCom file (with all persons you want to be included in Joaktree).
- Go to parameters and check that the option "rebuild relations" is set to "No".
- reload the full GedCom file.
This should fix your problem.
If the problem still continues to exists, please, report back to me describing
(a) what version of Joaktree you have installed;
(b) which program you used for generating your GedCom file;
(c) what the parameter settings were for the GedCom upload.
Problem with linking people to the tree with multiple tree option
Posted Monday, 16 August 2010 By Laetitia
I tried to do as you describe :
- for situation 1 (single tree) : everything works fine, all the persons of my database are linked to my family tree,
- for situation 2 (multiple trees) which is my case, I still have only the root person linked to my family tree.
May be I have made a mistake in my parameters, I don't know...
Here are the information you ask :
- Version of Joaktree : 1.2.1
- Program used to generate the GedCom file : Gramps 3.2.3-1 on Windows 7
- Parameter for gedcom upload :
-- Rebuild relations : No
-- Process steps : Process full file
-- Number of family trees : Multiple trees
Root person - child relations are missing
Posted Monday, 16 August 2010 By Niels
From your description I have to conclude that - for some reason - the child relations of your root persons are missing in the relation-table.
There are a number of ways to fix this.
(a)
- Create a new GedCom file with all relations of the different family trees included;
- Change the "Rebuild relations" setting to "Yes"
- Load the GedCom file.
(b)
- Go to your database;
- Empty all joaktree tables with exception of the following four:
1. joaktree_admin_persons
2. joaktree_display_settings
3. joaktree_registry_items
4. joaktree_trees
- Load your GedCom file.
If this does not work, something is going on with the GedCom file itself. In that case I have to look into the specifics of Gramps.
Please, keep me informed about your progress.
OK... I'm stupid...

Thank you for your answer.
Reading the title of your answer, I understand that I am stupid.
I had understood, that the root person was the last child of the tree, not the ancestor. So it was normal that only my "root" persons were linked to my family trees...
Sorry to have bothered you with such a stupid question...
There are no stupid questions ...

Don't be so harsh for yourself.
I guess the explanations of the manual has to be clarified on this topic. I will update it with the next release.
I am happy that your problem is now resolved.
Good luck with your website!
